This is an antique Victorian style brides basket c 1800's-1910. It is in excellent condition with very minor signs of age (patina, scratches). It has a beautiful floral and hummingbird etched detail. There is a double crest detail around the trim. The handle is in good working condition. The base is sturdy and in excellent condition.
Fashionable during the 1860's-1910's, the Victorian brides baskets were wedding gifts given during this period. These baskets would also serve important purposes during wedding ceremonies, sometimes being used by flower girls to scatter flower petals or to hold the bride's bouquet at the bridal table. Many brides baskets also featured colored glass inserts.
Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co.
was a cutlery and silver hollowware manufacturer in Wallingford, CT, founded in 1866. By the late 1800's the company had large factories in Wallingford and Montreal, Canada. Several of their designs have been collected by many American museums.
